Send your Royal maps in review!

The brand-new Royal mode on Trackmania also means a new map style. Every day, a new map from the Royal server review will be added to the current map pool.  Here are some tips to help you get the hang of this new way of creating tracks in Trackmania!

The Royal maps are made of 5 distinct segments classified by order of difficulty (white, green, blue, red, and black). Each segment is relatively short (less than 15 seconds without any accident). There is no checkpoint.

Managing the difficulty is the key to the success of a Royal map. The white segment should be finishable for all players, even beginners, while still presenting a challenge for the most novice drivers. Green is harder than white but still easy for experienced players. Blue should be a real challenge for casual players and Red becomes even harder. The black segment is the most complicated and should present real difficulties even for the most experienced players.

Avoid building maps around an expert technique like bugslide or neodrift for example. A mandatory drift or a speed check are not beginner friendly either.  Asking a novice player around you to test the map can help you detect difficult or confusing passages.

5 things to keep in mind when creating a Royal map:

– Progressive increase in difficulty

– Map must be adapted to all types of players

– Short and readable segments

– Scenery must guide the player all along the way

– A royal round is 2’30 long

Have fun building!
